Discrimination is Mental Torture
Discrimination at the core, is treating one person or a group differently from another, often unfairly and based on certain characteristics. It relates to how we filter the world and make decisions based on stereotypes or biases, rather than on individual character or merit! Being discriminatory is not necessarily malicious and does not always evolve from a place of overt hatred. It may stem from deeply ingrained, often unconscious bias that we have picked up through our culture, media and experiences. Discrimination is about effect not just intent. Though actions may not purposefully intend discrimination actions may actually create an unequal or negative outcome, and is therefore still discriminatory. The act of discrimination can permeate any system or structures of society!
